The Grease Trap
installation 2017, frame 2022
In 2016, I sustained a spinal injury while working as a line cook.
A full MRI was done of my torso. I scoured the images,
trying to identify my body in its most recent transformation by pain.
The Grease Trap is a self portrait in metal and shadow.
It was born of an image transfer, from magnets to wire by means of fire.
An investigation into medical and bureaucratic aesthetics,
cameraless photographic portraiture, and labor practices in the foodservice industry;
the stratographic images have been expanded and animated
in an attempt to give the body some room to breathe.
