In 2016, I sustained a spinal injury while working as a line cook. A full MRI was done of my torso. I scoured the images, trying to identify my body in its most recent transformation by pain. The Grease Trap is a self portrait in metal and shadow. It was born of an image transfer, from magnets to wire by means of fire. An investigation into medical and bureaucratic aesthetics, camera-less photographic portraiture, and labor practices in the foodservice industry; the stratigraphic images have been expanded and animated in an attempt to give the body some room to breathe.
